Ashamak, a historical place..✍️

Ashmak is located on the banks of the Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh. It was a major Buddhist state in India. Its name comes in the list of Shodash Mahajanapadas in the Anguttar Nikaya . Its capital was Potal or Pottali . Nomenclature:- There is mention of a king named Ashmak in the Vayupurana and Mahabharata. Probably the name of the state was named after it. Historical Facts:- 1. The major fact was that it was the only Mahajanapada , which was situated to the south of the Vindhya mountain. 2. In modern times this state is called Maharashtra. 2. According to the Puranas, the ruler of this Mahajanapada was of the Ikshvaku dynasty. 3. It was also in the time of Dhritarashtra . 4. Panini has also mentioned ashmakas in the Ashtadhyayi.
