Eran (एरण) It is a famous city of Gupta period, situated near the Vindhyachal hill on the banks of Betwa river in Madhya Pradesh. There are many opinions about its naming. The first is that it is found in abundance in grass called Eran, so its name was eran. Some scholars believe that there lived a snake named eraka, so its name eran. Role in History:- The first mention of Sati practice comes from the Eran inscription. The Eran inscription is related to Bhanugupta . General Cunningham (The father and historian of the British Archaeological Department of India) first identified this ancient city of Erikin with Eran. According to Eran inscription, the first archival evidence of SATI is found in the Gupta period. Narsingh temple, Varaha temple and Vishnu temple have been found in Eran. All these are now in collapsed state.
